Not really! Though it has a quite wise and stubborn inventor!
Copper peptide GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. It had been discovered by Dr. Loren Pickart from human blood plasma in the 1980s, it has been said the copper peptide can also be found in human urine and saliva.
From 1985 Dr pickart started to make some creams with copper peptide, till now there are more than 50 copper peptide products in his own brand “Bio Skincare”. It seems his brand had been developed for decades of copperpetide.
though the first copper peptide cream was invented on 1985, but I feel this ingredient had always been in the middle of “no one knows” to “popular”. I knew GHK copper peptide from “the ordinary”, they had produced more than 3 copper peptide serums. From the ordinary’s copper peptide user’s instruction, we can see it’s hard to make a skincare routine combined with copper peptide serum, which is any acids may make the GHK with copper decomposed. In another peptides serum “the ordinary” specifically wrote you cannot even combine the Vitamin C derivant with peptides, like you cannot use EAA with peptides together in your skincare routine.
You can get hundreds of academic papers when you search “GHK Copper peptide” in Google academic research, but seems the invivo studies are not enough. Dr pickart had published some studies, but from the modern view, I think the evidence is not quite strong, for reasons like test population is insufficient. And some studies tried to prove the GHK copper peptide can be used as cream for wounds recovery.
On the year of 2020, copper peptide started to be popular in China. (at least on social media, lots of influencers started to propagandize the copper peptide is a star ingredient can benefit your skin from all aspects.) but seems few voices of the difficulty of its dermal transpassibility. Though some influencers started to mention the copper peptides may darken the skin color since the copper may cause the tyrosinase active. But I prefer to believe the copper peptide is safe for humans based on current evidence.
Another question is I found quite few (or even no) doctors recommend the copper peptide and endorse its functions on skin. I believe it is because Dr Pickart’s starburn on some topics. I found quite some “awkward” skincare views on “Skin Biology” website (yes, it is a brand of Dr Pickart, though the design of their website and the web 1.0 style astonished me) the products line seems quite a lot 1980s design style, which I made a joke in my short video that maybe their packing materials were ordered too many from 1985. Dr pickart shared a lot of point of orphan views on his website which are: the hyaluronic acid as a skincare ingredient is not proven total safe, which may cause skin cancer; the signal peptides as skincare ingredients are not proven safe yet, that may just be a “scam”; the genetically modified crops are not safe, a lot of plant extracts had been overrated.(I totally agree with this one) Though Dr pickart had put some separate sections on his site to judge ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Each page’s bottom shows “skin improve? toll free call:800******” emmm, I believe Dr Pickart is quite a practical doctor.
As the founder of copper peptide, there seems few videos info on internet of Dr pickart. A Chinese company had an interview with him, which I saw Dr Pickart quite discreetly introduced his research in that interview. on 2018 Dr Pickart had published a book to introduce his almost dedicated whole life of :GHK copper peptide. In his book he used lots of research papers to prove the potential functions of copper peptide, which can benefit skin, beauty, anti cancer, anti anxiety and such functions made GHK copper peptide invincible.
For me, I had used several copper peptide products few years ago, and on 2021 I received several Chinese copper peptide products, sorry to say I didn’t feel any improvements on my face. I believe if there have wounds on my skin I would rather to use copper peptide, just till now I didn’t have a chance. Ms Paula Begoun believes the skincare function of copper peptide is somewhere between the “real and fiction“. Well, I guess I feel the same.
Ok, my attitude for the GHK copper peptide skincare function can be summed as the sentence in the beginning:
Not really! Though it has a quite wise and stubborn inventor!
Hence I put several short videos I have made for introducing (judging) GHK copper peptide:
(Sorry for my bias, Dr Pickart!)
the 2 videos above were made when I was first to look for useful evidence of GHK copper peptide, obviously, they were made too rough!
This video above you can choose to see it as a “gossip” (Oh I love gossips! haha)
